Anyone who takes a cruise that goes to Amber Cove in April will likely find weather that is neither the best in the year nor the worst.

Amber Cove weather in April is plenty warm but it also has more rain than some of the drier months of the year. It also gets more rain in April than other cruise destinations.

This private port developed by Carnival cruise lines is an all-in-one entertainment facility near the Dominican Republic resort city of Puerto Plata. Like other Dominican Republic destinations, Amber Cove is known for beaches and warm weather.

Rain in April

Amber Cove averages nearly five inches of rain in April, according to historical records from Dominican Republic’s National Office of Meteorology.

The average is high for any Caribbean destination in April. The more popular ones average less than three inches during the month.

Amber Cove and Puerto Plata are unusual because their dry season goes from June through September. The dry season has an average of about two to three inches of rain per month.

For most of the Caribbean, the dry season runs between January and April. The Caribbean rainy season for many other islands is June through November.

The Caribbean rainy season often brings five or more inches of rain per month. By that standard, April is part of the rainy season for Amber Cove. But April isn’t as bad as November and December when the average rainfall is nine inches a month.

Temperatures in April

The average high temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 Celsius. The average low is 66 Fahrenheit or 19 Celsius.

Those nighttime lows are lower than many destinations in April and will often make seawater too chilly for swimming in the mornings. Visitors may find more comfortable water in the afternoons.

Anyone with a choice on when to take a cruise that includes Amber Cove may want to go in June or July instead. The risk of rain and cool nighttime and seawater temperatures don’t make April an ideal time to go.
