Vacationers will find Bermuda weather in December has an average high temperature of 71 degrees Fahrenheit and 17 days of rain.

The total days with rain is the highest of the year. But they won’t stop some people from going to this British island about 650 miles east of the North Carolina coast.

December is a popular time to visit Caribbean islands for northerners who want to escape cold and snowy winters. Although Bermuda is not in the Caribbean Sea, it is often a destination for cruise ships that go from the east coast of the U.S. to the Caribbean.

Bermuda’s location also makes it a quick and simple trip for many people in the eastern U.S. and Canada. And who can ignore the island’s well-known golf courses any time of the year?

Temperatures in December

Over a 30-year period, Bermuda has had an average high temperature of 71 degrees Fahrenheit or 22 Celsius, according to the Bermuda Weather Service.

The average low temperature is 62 degrees Fahrenheit or 17 Celsius. The highs take place during the day, and the lows occur at night.

The water temperature average is 68 Fahrenheit or 20 Celsius. The water temperature plus the wind chill factor make swimming too cold for anyone except for the most hardy swimmers.

Temperatures are about the same as April and slightly warmer than January through March. But they aren’t nearly as good as the mid-80s Fahrenheit during the summer.

Rainfall in December

Bermuda rain during December is about average for the year at 4.6 inches total. It is not as good as April and May, which are the best months of rain. It is better than January, June and August through October.

The bigger problem with rain in December is the number of days with rain. They total 17 for the month, which is the worst month of the year along with January.

So visitors to Bermuda in December will find temperatures are warmer than northern climates, rainfall common and seawater too chilly for swimming.

But it is a nice change of pace for anyone who has several feet of snow outside of their northern home.
