Anyone who likes rain will find that Antigua weather in September has plenty of it.

Anyone who doesn’t like rain and wants to go to Antigua should choose another month to go there.

Antigua is a popular cruise destination for eastern Caribbean cruises. It claims to have 365 beaches or one for every day of the year.

It also has one of the best historical attractions in the Caribbean at English Harbour, a former major naval port for the British navy during colonial times.

The island has weather patterns that are similar to other eastern Caribbean cruise destinations. So it has the same warmth and sun during some months of the year as well as heavy rain during other times.

Antigua Rain in September

The average historical rainfall in September is nearly six inches, according to 26 years of data from the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorology Services.

That average is the highest of the year. The high point is typical for many islands in the region because September is the most active month for storms and hurricanes during the annual Caribbean hurricane season.

October and November fare only a little better with more than five inches during each month.

Despite the higher rainfall in September, the island experiences fewer days of rain during the month with an average of 11. August and October through December have an average of 13 days each.

In contrast, one of the best weather months of the year for Antigua is June with an average of two inches and eight days of rain.

Antigua Temperatures in September

The average high temperatures stay within a range of five degrees Fahrenheit all year long.

The average high reaches 87 Fahrenheit or about 31 Celsius in June and stays there through September and even into October.

The average low temperature for September is 77 degrees Fahrenheit or 25 Celsius. These mostly nighttime temperatures are warm enough to keep ocean waters comfortable for swimming during the day.

September is not a good time of the year to visit the Caribbean because of the higher risk of rain for most destinations.

Antigua suffers from the same problem. But fewer days with rain make it a better bet than most destinations for daring vacationers.

Anyone who thinks about visiting Antigua during this month should consider a last-minute vacation after watching the weather forecasts. Storms form in the eastern Atlantic and move west toward the Caribbean.

They are a good indication of the kind of weather that approaches Antigua in September.
