Antigua Weather in October

Trying to judge Antigua weather in October as either good or bad is a tough call.

Let’s just say that it’s somewhere in the middle for this popular destination on eastern Caribbean cruises.

October is usually a bad month to visit most destinations in the Caribbean because of the annual hurricane season.

It runs from June through November, but September and October are the worst months for weather with the highest chances of heavy rains or even an occasional hurricane.

Antigua gets its fair share of rain, but other destinations get a lot more.

The following averages come from a 30-year history and will vary from year to year.

Antigua’s average rainfall in October is a little more than five inches, which is similar to the amount it receives in September and November, according to the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorology Services.

That compares to as much as 10 inches in some other locations, but it isn’t as good as the two to three inches the island receives from December through April.

What also matters for anyone planning a vacation there is the number of days it rains on average each month.

For Antigua in October, the average is 13 days. That total is fairly common among many destinations during most months of the year.

It rains only eight days in February, March and June.

Temperatures

Antigua is among a group of Caribbean islands that maintain highly consistent temperatures throughout the year with a variation of only a few degrees each month.

The average high temperature in October is 87 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low is 77 degrees.

Sea water will be comfortable for swimming.

October is the last month of the year with daytime temperatures in the high 80s. They will drop in the coming months to the low 80s.

Whether to Go

Antigua has better weather with lower chances of rain in other months during the year, especially in the spring.

Still, it’s October weather is better than some destinations such as Cancun, Cozumel, Dominica and the Caribbean coast of Central America.

It also isn’t as good as the weather in a handful of destinations that usually stay dry in October, such as the ABC islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.

Rainfall is equally bad in September, October and November. So if the decision has been made to visit Antigua or stop there on a cruise in the fall, the odds are slightly less than 50 percent of getting at least some rain during the course of a day.
