Antigua Weather in February - Rainfall and Temperatures

It shouldn't surprise anyone that the most popular month to visit Antigua is February.

After all, Antigua’s February weather experiences the lowest rainfall of the year on average over a 30-year history, according to the World Weather Organization.

The island is a popular stop on eastern Caribbean cruises because of its close and convenient location to the Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Dominica. For southern Caribbean routes, it also lies in the path of St. Lucia and Barbados.

Visitors flock to Antigua for several reasons including the St. John’s cruise port, the historic English Harbour and the island’s claim to having 365 beaches or one for every day in the year.

Although people don’t go to 365 beaches during any one visit, they do come to the island hoping to experience great weather. February is one of those months for the best chances of great weather thanks to the low rainfall and warm days.

Rain Inches
Antigua has experienced an average of only 1.5 inches of rain in February over a 30-year history tracked by the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorology Services.

By comparison, it sees more than five inches from September through November during the peak months of the Caribbean hurricane season.

Another way of judging the amount of rain each month to decide the best times to go is by looking at the average number of days that it rains each month.

For February, the total rain days is eight compared to a high point of 13 in August, October and November.

Because the amount of rain in February is light, the average rainfall on any one day is likely to be brief.

Average Temperatures

One potential downside to February is the temperature. The average high temperature is 83 degrees Fahrenheit or 23 degrees Celsius.

The average low, mainly at night, is 72 degrees F or 22 degrees C.

The high temperatures are warm enough to make daytime touring and other land activities comfortable. But the nighttime temperatures are cool enough to bring down water temperatures to the point where they may be uncomfortable for swimming, especially in the mornings.

By comparison, the average high temperature continues to climb until it reaches a peak of 88 degrees F or 31 degrees C in August, the hottest month of the year.

The possibility that water temperatures may be uncomfortable doesn’t stop people from visiting Antigua in February to enjoy sunny skies thanks to low chances of rain.
