A Grand Cayman family vacation is a great experience for families because of activities such as Stingray City, Seven Mile Beach and the Cayman Turtle Centre.
The island is a popular cruise port with western Caribbean cruises, especially during the dry season from December through April. It attracts about 1.6 million cruise visitors and about 400,000 hotel visitors every year, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
Families will find it is easy to spend a large amount of their shore excursion budget for an entire cruise on Grand Cayman. So it pays to make some choices about a few of the best activities.
Stingray City
Caribbean attractions that let people interact with sea creatures has become common in the Caribbean. One of the first and most famous is Stingray City on Grand Cayman. It’s also one of the most memorable.
Visitors take a boat out to shallow water where they can get into the water and snorkel with stingrays that have become comfortable with human contact. The water is only about three feet high. Our children loved the experience when we went.
Expect to pay about $50 per person or more with discounts for children depending on amenities and sailing date. Some excursions charge more because of extras such as lunch and additional snorkeling stops.

Families taking a western Caribbean cruise that visits Grand Cayman will discover seven miles of white sand beach to explore not long after they step off the ship.
The cruise dock is in the city of George Town. So visits can not only get right onto the famous Seven Mile Beach after a somewhat long walk, they also can immediately look for shopping and dining opportunities.
The beach near the docks is often crowded. Although the beach is free, some shore excursions are available for a small price that includes transportation to less-crowded locations along Seven Mile Beach plus amenities.
Cayman Turtle Farm
Cayman Turtle Centre says it is the Cayman Islands’ largest land-based attraction and draws more than 500,000 visitors a year. This research center has 8,000 green sea turtles and has released more than 30,000 into the wild since it began.
Shore excursion prices are about $60 per person, with discounts for children, and often include a few other stops along the way. Some of the excursions may include a stop at the town called Hell, which is famous for its name.
Devil’s Grotto
The Devil’s Grotto is an attraction where families can scuba dive through an endless maze of underwater caves. It is a gorgeous experience that will leave a family with lasting memories.
Cayman Motor Museum
The museum is a unique collection of rare and exotic cars put together by a Norwegian businessman and moved to the island to create a public attraction.

Cardinal Avenue
This highly visited street has many different types of shops and offers an island shopping experience. Locals often shop here so there is a nice variety of choice without everything being themed towards vacationers.
