St. Maarten weather in November is the worst of the year for this beautiful and popular eastern Caribbean island.

Heavy rainfall from the annual Caribbean hurricane season makes this month a bad time to visit the island either by cruise or for anyone planning to stay a while.

St. Maarten is one of the more popular destinations especially for cruise visitors. It has one of the best cruise ports at Philipsburg on the Dutch side of the island.

Most destinations in the region see the worst weather from the hurricane season in September or October. St. Maarten is an exception because it historically has the worst weather in November.

The following weather averages are based on a 30-year history and may vary somewhat from year to year.

Like other Caribbean destinations in the fall, temperatures are not a problem during November even though winter is on the way.

St. Maarten temperatures remain fairly consistent from month to month, and November is no exception, unlike the rain.

The average high temperature in St. Maarten during November is 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 Celsius, according to the St. Maarten Meteorological Department. The average low is 77 Fahrenheit or 25 Celsius.

Seawater temperatures remain quite comfortable at 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

St. Maarten Rainfall

The island receives on average about three inches of rain every month, but in November it spikes up to six inches.

The number of days it rains during the month is 15, also the highest of the year.

Oddly enough, St. Maarten has less cloud cover and more sunshine in November than at least some other months of the year such as September and October.

It even has fewer days with thunder, according to the St. Maarten Meteorological Department, although some of us have never heard thunder in the Caribbean. Maybe we just got lucky.

Whether to Go

Anyone who does a little research about Caribbean weather knows that the fall months of September through November are the months with the highest chances of rain.

That doesn’t stop some people who go during this time of year to take advantage of price discounts for hotels and resorts.

Out of any month of the year, St. Maarten in November should be avoided for anyone interested in going there via cruise or stopover vacations.

If a November vacation has appeal, consider going to Aruba or other islands with lower rainfall.

But do plan to go to St. Maarten if the time of the year is flexible. This island has great beaches, shopping and things to do.

They will just be a lot more fun to do during other months of the year.
