Dominica weather in February offers visitors a rare break in the rain for an island that is normally quite rainy.
Dominica is one of the wettest islands in the Caribbean. It lies midway between Guadeloupe and Martinique, two other islands that also normally have high levels of rain.
The heavy rains on Dominica create one of the most lush ecotourism islands in the region.
It is a common stop on eastern Caribbean cruises for active people who want rainforest hikes and waterfalls more than they want beaches. For others, it is simply a change in pace from the more popular beach islands.
Dominica Temperatures in February
Dominica temperatures in February have an average high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit or about 28 Celsius, according to the Dominica Meteorological Services. It is slightly cooler than many Caribbean destinations during the month.
The average low temperature is 71 Fahrenheit or about 22 Celsius. Seawater temperatures average between the highs and lows. They often are too cool for swimming in February. But that’s OK; Dominica isn’t known as a beach destination.
By comparison, the average highs peak at 87 degrees Fahrenheit or about 31 Celsius in August and September.

Rainfall in February
The average rainfall for Dominica in February is about four inches, according to the Dominica Meteorological Service. It is the lowest level of rain for the entire year, which makes it a good month to visit the island.
It increases to about five inches in March and April, then climbs quickly after the arrival of the Caribbean hurricane season from June through November.
The Caribbean hurricane season is most active in September for the majority of islands. For Dominica, September has an average of 12 inches, climbs again in October and hits a high point of about 15 inches in November. September and November also are the low points of the year for tourist visits to Dominica, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
So rainfall of four inches in February is a blessing for cruise and hotel visitors.

Whether to Go in February
For the low risk of rain alone, Dominica is worth visiting in February for anyone who wants a chance to see the island’s rainforests, many waterfalls and quiet, laid-back culture.
It also is a nice break from the heavy commercialism that is growing among many of the more popular Caribbean islands.
