Cozumel weather in October has warm temperatures, but the risk of rain is higher than usual.
If drenching rains on vacation have appeal to anyone, then Cozumel in October may deliver the results.
People go to the Mexican island of Cozumel because of hot weather, great beaches and numerous outdoor activities. But heavy rain will put a damper on it all.
October is the wettest month of the year for Cozumel amid the peak season of the Caribbean hurricane season.
The odds of getting wet are as high as anywhere in the region.
The following rain and temperature averages come from a 30-year history. The actual total will vary somewhat from year to year, but they offer a pattern for what to expect.
Rainfall
The average monthly rainfall in Cozumel in October is 9.5 inches, according to Servicio Meteorológico Nacional, Mexico’s national meteorology service. It is the highest amount of the year for Cozumel and one of the highest in the Caribbean.
It beats the September total slightly. The amount is quite a bit higher than the two inches this Mexican island destination receives on average in April. Late spring offers much better weather.
The number of days it rains in October is more than 15, also the highest of the year.
Then again, 15 days with rain means another 15 days without it. Adventurous types might get lucky and spend their time there with plenty of sun and no rain.
Other Caribbean islands may average 15 or more rain days a month, but their total rainfall is lower.
That means when it does rain in Cozumel, the rainfall is much heavier by comparison.

Whether to Go
Cozumel weather in October is the worst of the year and suffers through some of the heaviest rain in the region.
In short, don’t go unless it is a last-minute vacation with a weather forecast that looks promising.
The best way to prepare for a possible vacation there in October is by looking at the formation of storms and hurricanes in the eastern Atlantic Ocean.
If a vacation is planned and bad weather looks likely, consider the possibility of travel insurance in case a hurricane forces an early evacuation.
At this point, going in April—or most other months—sounds like an even better idea.
