Costa Rica Weather in February: Rain, Temperatures

Costa Rica weather in February is warm, breezy and sometimes sunny but oftentimes rainy.
Costa Rica has two major ports of call for cruise ships: Limon on the Caribbean coast and Puntarenas on the Pacific coast. They share the same heavy rains from May through December, but quite different weather from January through April.
Costa Rica Temperatures in February
Average February temperatures in Costa Rica are between the mid 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit, depending on the area of the country.
Limon temperatures in February average 84 degrees Fahrenheit or 29 Celsius, according to Costa Rica’s National Meteorological Institute. The average low is 69 Fahrenheit or about 21 Celsius.
For Puntarenas, the average high temperature is 94 degrees Fahrenheit or 34 Celsius. The average low is 72 Fahrenheit or 22 Celsius.

Rainfall
Limon weather doesn’t have a rainy season and dry season like most Caribbean destinations. It rains quite a bit every month for most months of the year.
Many parts of Costa Rica are rainforest and do not have a dry season at any point in the year.
Puntarenas is an exception. It has a dry season from January through April. The average rainfall for Puntarenas in February is less than one inch, according to the Costa Rica National Meteorological Institute. Rain is often light and brief in duration.
The yearly average rainfall for the country is 100 inches. Most of this falls from May to December.
Should I Visit Costa Rica in February?
Regarding weather, February is a great month of year to visit Puntarenas in Costa Rica.
There is relatively little to no rain, and the temperatures are warm. It is a great escape from the colder, more northern climates.
Limon has a high risk of rain, but it does so most months of the year. So February is as good a time as any to visit the Limon cruise port.
February is near the peak of the country’s tourist season, meaning it is likely to be more crowded.
