Bahamas Weather in April: Rain, Temperatures

Bahamas weather in April is just warm enough for pleasant land activities but still a bit cool for swimming and other water activities.
The Bahamas receive more cruise visitors than any other islands in the Caribbean and Atlantic region.
Although the Bahamas technically aren’t in the Caribbean Sea, they are often among the ports of call for many eastern Caribbean cruises. Nassau is the most popular port, followed by Freeport.
About 5 million people visit the Bahamas by cruise every year, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization. Another 1.4 million visit the islands for hotel vacations.
For hotel visitors, April is not as popular as March or July, which are the two most popular months. But it ties for third place with June.
Bahamas Temperatures in April
Bahama temperatures are cooler than other Caribbean islands because Nassau and Freeport lie north of the Caribbean Sea. As a result, they have more in common with the nearby Florida coast.
The average high temperature for the Bahamas in April is 82 degrees Fahrenheit or about 28 degrees Celsius, according to the Bahamas Department of Meteorology. The average low is 67 Fahrenheit or about 19 Celsius.
Water temperatures will often feel chilly for swimming because of the nighttime temperatures, water currents from the north and wind chill factors.
But it’s warm enough on land. The islands receive a large number of visitors who spend time with land activities such as golf and the large shopping, dining and entertainment district in Nassau.
By comparison, temperatures reach an average high of nearly 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 degrees Celsius in July and August. But those months have some of the heaviest rain of the year in the Bahamas.
Bahamas Rainfall in April
April is part of the dry season for the Bahamas that runs from December through April.
The average rainfall during the month is less than three inches, according to the Bahamas Department of Meteorology.
By comparison, December through March average two inches of rain or less.
It rains on average about eight days during April, which is similar to the number of rain days during other months of the dry season.
During the rainy season, total rainfall jumps to an average of nine inches in August and eight inches in June.
The Bahamas receive more rain on average in May and especially from June through August than most Caribbean islands. For that reason, April is one of the best months of the year to visit for a combination of low rainfall and warm temperatures.
